Chris and Liz, We recently had the immense pleasure of staying at Slack Cottage in High Wray, and I must pen this letter to express our heartfelt gratitude and admiration for the experience. Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, the cottage, once owned by the illustrious Beatrix Potter, exudes an enchanting charm that transported us to a bygone era of tranquility and beauty. The view over the lake was nothing short of magical, offering a serene panorama that we found ourselves lost in, time and time again. From the moment we arrived, you both made us feel incredibly welcome. Your warmth and hospitality set the tone for what became the most peaceful stay we've ever had in the Lakes. Your knowledge of the area's history and the stories you shared enriched our experience, making us feel connected to the place in a deeply personal way. The cottage itself is a haven of comfort and charm, with every detail thoughtfully considered. Each morning, we awoke to a wonderful breakfast, lovingly prepared and presented. It was the perfect start to our days, providing both nourishment and delight. Slack Cottage is, without a doubt, a special location. It offers a rare combination of historical significance, natural beauty, and exceptional hospitality. We truly couldn't fault a single thing about our stay. Every moment spent there was a treasure, and we left feeling rejuvenated and inspired. Thank you, Chris and Liz, for creating such a perfect haven. We will cherish the memories of our stay at Slack Cottage and look forward to the day we can return. With warmest regards Sandy & Bob, North Yorks

We had a magical time during our stay here! Mr. and Mrs. Lane were friendly and informative while also providing 5 star service. The room amenities were just what we needed, the traditional English breakfast was delicious and the interiors were perfectly curated to make the home truly feel like a cottage. I don’t think our experience in the Lake District would have been the same if we hadn’t stayed here. It was really like being in a fairy tale!

We had the most amazing stay at Slack Cottage for three nights recently. Wonderful views of the lake and a short walk down to the lakes edge. Great walks to the Castle and to the ferry ! The cottage itself is spotlessly clean and the attention to detail with the room servicing and everything is second to none ! A truly great breakfast that kept us going all day , didn't need any lunch ! The hosts Chris and Liz are charming people who do everything possible to make your stay comfortable and answer all the questions you might have on anything ! This was our first time in the lake District and we have fallen totally in love with the area. Thankyou to Slack cottage for adding to our wonderful experience. Jo and Paul from Essex

If you're looking for a spot to venture round windermere Lake this is your spot. A short walk to the lake. Locally driveable to Ambleside if you wish to venture out for evening meal and drink. Hosts very accommodating. Would come again.

We picked Slack Cottage for our weekend break and stayed here for 3 nights in July. It couldn't have been any better. Location was perfect, only about 15 mins drive from Ambleside, beautiful country side with amazing lake view. Pictures on the web doesn't do it justice, you need to see it for yourself. You can walk to the lake from the cottage in less than 2 mins for lakeside walks or morning jogs. The cottage having only two rooms gives extra peace of mind in this current social distancing situation. It's very clean and tidy. The breakfast is absolutely delicious and everything was very organised. Our hosts Liz and Chris made everything they possibly could to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. I can't recommend this accommodation enough. We'll definitely go back for another stay in Slack Cottage.

Stayed here for a couple of nights recently and really enjoyed it. Hosts were friendly, engaging and hospitable but gave lots of freedom. Never felt like my stay was an invasion of their home as everything is very separate. Give them a heads-up for dietary requirements and they’ll help you out too which was more than I’ve had elsewhere. Missed breakfast on the morning of checkout due to the solitude and quiet of the cottage so there might be some spare vegan sausages in their freezer ;) Thank you Liz and Chris for a great stay.

From the moment we pulled up to the gate, my girlfriend and I knew we were going to love this place; and we did! Liz explained everything on check-in, and the view from our room was absolutely stunning. It was a short walk down to a lakeside path that offered more incredible views. Chris was more than happy to give us advice on walks in the area which was very appreciated. The beds were probably the most comfortable beds we had on our entire 4 week trip, and the breakfast was top-notch. Our only regret is not spending more time here and exploring more of the Lake District!
